A Reminder to Freelance and Official Reporters:
Transcript Format Guidelines
On January 15, 1999, Rule 29(A) was amended by the Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration. The rule relates to the format of transcripts where a notice of appeal has been filed on or after April 1, 1999. This rule only applies to transcripts prepared for cases appealed to an Alabama appellate court, which may include juvenile cases on appeal.
The amended rule is effective where a notice of appeal has been filed on or after April 1, 1999, and requires:
25 double-spaced lines per letter-size page and marginal lines and establishes marginal requirements with the text beginning 1
and 3/4 inches from the left edge of the page and not to font size, capitalization, indentions, and the manner in which questions and answers, colloquies, quotations, parenthetical notations, headings, interruptions of speech, and simultaneous discussions are to be typed. An express provision is also included authorizing contempt sanctions for a reporter's willful noncompliance with the rule's provisions.
If you have any specific questions concerning the provisions of this Rule, please feel free to call AOC at 1 (800) 392-8077 or Pat Higgins of Dunn, King & Associates (334) 263-0261
